Lesson Plan One

(Grades K-2)

Subject:          Science

 

Topic:             Life Cycle of Frogs

 

Objectives:     Students will learn the main stages of growth in frog development.  Students will practice their handwriting and coloring skills.

 

Procedure:    

 

1.      Teacher tells students if they are good, a game will be played after the lesson.

2.      Teacher opens by asking students questions about frogs to gain understanding of the students’ level of knowledge prior to the lesson.

3.      Teacher reads the book The Frog Prince.  (Children sit in floor for this activity).

4.      Teacher comments on the real stages of frog changes.  Teacher explains each stage of development with pictures of each (Students are now seated at their desks).

5.      Teacher asks for questions and then summarizes (Allow students to take 1 minute to stretch).

6.      Teacher hands out worksheets for students to color and trace.  These worksheets reiterate the lesson.

7.      Children complete the assignment and turn it in.

8.      Children are allowed to play “Leap Frog.”

 

Evaluation:     Teacher observes the group’s response.  Teacher observes individual responses on the worksheets.

 

Modifications:

 

1.      Teacher monitors the student’s comprehension of the language used during the lesson by asking frequent questions.

2.      Teacher allows students to move between activities.

3.      Teacher helps students to keep their work areas free from unnecessary or distracting materials.

                       

Materials:

1.      Poster with the stages of development in frogs

2.      Coloring sheets (one to color in class, one to take home)

3.      Crayons/Markers
